Research Interests
Nearly everything a young child learns depends on their ability to make memories, yet almost no one remembers their first years of life. My research asks three questions: How do memories emerge and persist? How does sleep transform what a young child has learned into stable knowledge? And how does the developing brain change the way memories are formed and retained?
I work with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers using structural and functional MRI (including fMRI during natural sleep), polysomnography, and memory tasks designed for children too young to tell us what they remember.
